Summerland cross country coach, Carrie Williamson, welcomed three returning letterwinners and six new runners when practices began, Aug. 10. Three football players with ties to area schools have been selected for the Northeast Nebraska All-Star Classic. OC's Eli Macke will join Clay Curtis of Royal, who plays for the Creighton Bulldogs and Josh Klabenes, of the CWCE Renegades, in the June 13 classic. Orchard school board members took no official action, other than consent agenda items when they met in the high school business room Wednesday, Feb. 4. Orchard principal Cathy Cooper told board members negotiations with the teachers’ association had been completed, with the 2020-2021 base salary for Summerland teachers set at $35,000. In front of family, coaches and friends, Stallbaum signed a letter of intent, Dec. 17, at Ewing Public Schools. The Orchard Public School Advisory Board of Education faced a short agenda when they met last Wednesday at the high school. Board members heard from Principal Cathy Cooper that enrollment numbers used for football classification, as of last Wednesday, sat at 47, the maximum allowed for eight-man participation, in order to qualify for state playoffs.
