Antelope Memorial Hospital's Move it 2 Lose it Challenge, (formerly called the Biggest and Best Losers Contest, ran from Jan. 6 through February 28th. It was coordinated by Meghan Fernau, AMH Wellness Director. A total of 694.8 pounds were collectively lost by the 78 contestants who competed in three categories. Ewing speech team individuals placed in five events at Saturday’s Creighton Speech Invitational. Twenty-one teams participated and Ewing finished eighth in team standings. Six members of the Orchard original and advisory boards of education, meeting jointly at the high school last Tuesday evening, heard that five compressors in the Trane HVAC system had failed the previous month. A timeline for replacement was not available. Darrel Timm of Neligh and Julie Krause of Brunswick were appointed to the Antelope County Extension Board by the county commissioners, when the county leaders met last week at the Neligh courthouse. Local extension educator Brittany Spieker proposed the appointments of Timm and Krause to replace Gayle Wortman and Derek Zuhlke, who had each completed two terms on the board. Thursday morning, the state committee for the reorganization of school districts approved dissolution of Clearwater, Ewing and Orchard Public School districts and the formation of the Summerland school district, effective June 6, during a 29-minute public hearing at the Nebraska Department of Education in Lincoln. Schools in Nebraska Unified District #1 will receive initial start-up funds when the district dissolves, June 5.
