December 12, 2019

Schools in Nebraska Unified District #1 will receive initial start-up funds when the district dissolves, June 5.

Board of education members directed Superintendent Dale Martin, at its Nov. 18 meeting in Verdigre, to have legal council draft a resolution stating that physical assets at each site would be retained by that site, each distrit would receive their intial start-up funds and the balance of cash assets would be divded by current valuation.

According to Martin, Clearwater Public Schools contributed $359,934; Orchard Public Schools, $354,435 and Verdigre Public Schools, $360,113.

“The funds were placed into the general fund account and used to run the school district,” Martin said.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the district’s 2018-2019 audit with Marcy Luth.

• Reviewed the ceterified staff early retirement policy. No action was taken.

• Heard from Martin about property tax issues in the legislature.

The board is scheduled to meet Monday, Dec. 16, in Clearwater, at 5:30 p.m.

Agenda items include school safety reviews, discussion and possible action on an agreement to dissolve unification and superintendent’s evaluation.
