Two separate incidents of vandalism occured at the Summerland Advocate-Messenger office recently. The first incident, which occurred Sept. 22, ended with a broken ceramic flower pot and an American flag, on a pole, snapped from a bracket on the building. The second incident occurred between Sept. 28 and Oct. 1. A second flower pot was moved to another location, flowers removed and the pot broken. Two initiative measures - one requiring photographic identification, one increasing minimum wage - were passed by Nebraska voters during the Nov. 8 General Election. Initiative 432 amends Nebraska's constitution, to require voters to "present valid photographic identification" prior to voting. An Alliance woman made an unsuccessful attempt to fight a speeding ticket in the Antelope County courtroom in Neligh last Wednesday, Aug. 3. Jane E. Fletcher, 55, faced the Honorable Donna Taylor for trial on an infraction charge of exceeding the posted speed limit by 25 miles per hour. Fletcher, who was self-represented, testified for the defense and Nebraska State Patrol trooper Mora Tighe was called to the witness stand for the prosecution. April was National Autism Awareness Month and National Adopt a Pet month. Zekiel Kaiser, a preschooler at Summerland Public School, was successful bringing a light to both causes last April.
