A Summerland FFA student who started an auto detailing business has been tabbed by the Nebraska FFA Foundation as a 2023 grant recipient. Approximately $97,000 was awarded in total grant funding statewide. Last week, the Bobcat volleyball team picked two impressive wins. On Oct. 10, Summerland traveled to Wayne and, after dropping set one, rebounded to win the match. Summerland’s high school cross country runners took part in the Class D-3 district meet, Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Ainsworth Golf Course. Due to impending weather, the meet was held a day early. A field of 57 runners competed in the girls’ division. Carlee Livingston ran the route in 26:15.9, finishing 39th. Savannah Gallagher ended 50th, crossing the finish line in 30:09.77. Two separate incidents of vandalism occured at the Summerland Advocate-Messenger office recently. The first incident, which occurred Sept. 22, ended with a broken ceramic flower pot and an American flag, on a pole, snapped from a bracket on the building. The second incident occurred between Sept. 28 and Oct. 1. A second flower pot was moved to another location, flowers removed and the pot broken. Members of Summerland Public School's FFA chapter got first-hand experience in forestry, Monday, Oct. 2. Students added 10 new trees to school property, near the FFA corn test plot and track-and-field areas.
