Goal in sight • Preston Hoke protects the ball as two Plainview defenders zero in on him during Friday's roadgame. Hoke caught three passes for 36 yards and returned a kickoff for a Summerland touchdown. While the Bobcats kept pace with the Pirates in the first half, they couldn't keep pace in the final two quarters. Plainview remains undefeated following a 62-34 win over the Bobcats.

Alec Schindler finished with 200 all-purpose yards and Connor Thomson racked up another 140 yards, but it wasn't enough for the Bobcats in Friday's 62-34 loss to Plainview.

Coach Tom Thramer said he thought his team did a good job of "bringing the fight to Plainview" in the first half. Both teams found the end zone once in the first quarter and the Pirates took a 28-21 lead to the locker room at the half.

"We were able to get some big stops and make some big plays on offense and special teams, with Preston Hoke returning the kickoff for a touchdown," Thramer said. "The second half was a different story as we came out flat and did not respond well when Plainview hit us in the mouth."

Plainview scored three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter, ultimately putting the game away. Both squads added 13 points to their causes.

Michael Koenig connected on seven of 17 passes for 110 yards. Thomson led all rushers with 78 yards on four carries, averaging 19.5 yards per carry. Sam Cheatum, reeled in two passes for 53 yards to lead receivers.

Ethan Kester led the defensive attack with 15 tackles, including five solo take downs. Preston Hoke finished with 13 tackles.

The Bobcats travel to North Central, Friday, with a kickoff set for 2 p.m., in Sprinview.

"We play a scrappy North Central team. Despite their record, they play with a lot of toughness and grit, so we will have to be ready to strap it up Friday," Thramer said.
