He becomes alienated from his childhood friend Lily Evans when he calls her a "Mudblood." "Number six, Summerland," the reader announces. Within seconds, the student standing in the sixth spot replies, "Severus Snape." Correct answer. That's five...

I don’t know about you, but I write a lot “in my head.” When we lived at the farm, I would write entire articles for the Norfolk Daily News while I walked back and forth across the great green carpet, perfecting the lead paragraph, organizing details, planning how and where to add important and pertinent quotes. During my two-hour jaunt, I would have the piece memorized so, once inside, I could put words to paper. The process was darn near perfect. Very seldom would I need to make changes. Man,...

Federal resources benefit all Nebraskans, funding essential services like education, health care, infrastructure, and disaster recovery. However, recent actions by the current administration have put rural programs at risk, including those supporting agriculture and energy. Disruptions to federal funding, including those initiated by President Trump’s Executive Order, Unleashing American Energy, pose a risk to rural communities. For example, in July 2024, the Nebraska Department of E...

And state senators met on how to spend that glut of money with plans to finally make Nebraska a more attractive destination for new residents, and a place where more tourists will spend their vacation cash. Lawmakers even had a flashy name f...

The phone rang and I answered it because the call was from a nearby community. No big surprise that the caller was obviously not from anywhere near and the caller was asking for a donation for some organization in which I had no interest. I said, in a kindly tone, "No thank you," and hung up. They will never end the call. You must hang up. Financial abuse by telephone or internet has been called "the crime of the 21st century." People of all ages are at risk, but scammers commonly target the...
