For a second year in a row, Summerland musicians earned superior ratings in both band and choir. Ten schools competed in Friday's competition at O'Neill Public schools. Summerland Public School musicians will participate in the Class C, District 3 music contest this Friday in O'Neill. Freshman distance runner Isabella Kester earned two medals at last week's Battle Creek Track Invitational. Kester set a personal record in the 1600m, with a 6:04.71 mark. She was just seconds behind the first-place winner in the 3200, crossing the tape in 13:05.50, a PR. "We reached our goal for the maximum scholarship money - $5,000 - from the Red Cross," reported Summerland FBLA advisor Patty Sukup. Six FBLA seniors hosted blood drives outside of the school and will receive scholarship money according to signing up donors, working the drive, and the number of drives they worked. Summerland's track and field teams headed to Neligh-Oakdale on March 26 for the first track meet of the season: the Warrior Relays. Athletes compete in each event as a collective group, and those marks are added together to determine an event winner. The Summerland football team finished its 2025 campaign with a 6-3 record, finishing second in the D1-4 district. Coach Tom Thramer called the season a success. "Especially after taking an ugly loss early to a very good Crofton team," he said. "The kids could have folded, but it showed how strong their character is to finish the season, from that point, at 5-2. The Bobcats will transition to the 11-man league next season. Cash Kester passed for 175 yards and ran for 124 in Friday's 55-0 victory over Madison. The Dragons did not have an answer for the Bobcats as they tallied 496 all-purpose yards. Crofton lit up the scoreboard Friday night, overpowering Summerland, 68-15, in Crofton.
