-Isms: Views on life in rural America

Random thoughts on a Monday (and Tuesday):

• Ego tries to mask itself with confidence and, usually, comes up short. Isn’t it better to show your real self and admit failures and be gracious when you find success?

• Procrastination is a fickle friend. She keeps promising to assist with a few projects and then she pulls me aside and commands all my attention elsewhere.

• I should have meal prepped today’s lunch. A German chocolate cupcake doesn’t contain a lot of nutritional value, even if it has coconut pecan frosting. Homemade, even.

• How are wasps finding their way into the office? I’ve smashed four today. And ... there’s another one.

• Rebekah has the cutest giggle.

• I asked Rebekah whose office she is in. She said hers. I asked if she is going to run the newspaper when she’s older. She responded, “Yes.” She already has her own desk, office supplies and tablet. Wonder if she’ll be ready to take over when she turns 18? Wonder if she’ll keep me on as a reporter?

• The beauty of art takes one’s breath away. Or it should.

• Why does Twitter allow group message requests when they are all spam?

• Will Aaron Rodgers get benched this weekend? Three and four doesn’t look good in Green Bay gold and green.

• When does the new season of “Ted Lasso” start? I need a good laugh.

• Would, or would it not, be fun to wake up one day without any responsibilities? Do whatever you wanted? Is that called retirement? I’m not ready to find out.

• Who’s bringing me a diet cherry limemade? I mean a real one, from Sonic. The little powder packet promising to taste like a real diet cherry limemade, when added to water, does not, in fact, taste like one. Maybe it would be better added to a smoothie. Let’s try that tomorrow morning.

Halloween is next Monday. Better buy treats to give away at the office.

• Should I buy the new TSwift album?

• Must get up to speed with “House of the Dragon.”

• Did someone just come in the office? It’s Tuesday. I’m on deadline.

• Is the fact that McRib’s are going away, for good, according to McDonald’s, really worthy of a breaking news alert? I think not.

• Oh no! Leslie Jordan died. He cracked me up with is “Will and Grace” performances. My favorite saying of his: “Happiness is a choice. Happiness is a habit. And happiness is something you have to work hard at. It does not just happen.”

• Dear Lord, please grant me three wishes this week: a Bobcat football victory to move on to round three, a Bobcat volleyball win in the district final (I hope I don’t jinx it) for a trip to Lincoln and a Husker win over Illinois. I don’t care if it’s only one point.

•Eating dinner at 10:30 p.m. isn’t a wise life choice. Neither is staying awake until 3 a.m. working.
