Red, white and blue • Tractors, in shades of red, blue, green and orange, travel along 519 Avenue, north of Royal, Saturday, during the Royal Tractor Parade.

An eclectic mix of tractors traversed the countryside connecting Antelope and Knox counties, Saturday, during the annual Royal Tractor Parade.

The annual event featured vintage tractors, with several modern models in the mix.

Gary Ober, of Royal, said the tractorcade has been a Royal tradition for nearly a dozen years.

The Saturday afternoon drive passed several landmarks, including the former Orchard fish hatchery, Grimton Cemetery, Oak View Park, Mars and Grove Lake.

Following check-in at Royal Bar & Grill, participants geared up for "clutches out" as the noon whistle echoed in the background, drowned out by the tapping and chugging of engines.

Riders were greeted by sunny skies and comfortable weather, as temperatures hovered in the mid70s.

Last year's participants were forced to seek shelter as an afternoon thunderstorm roared through the region.

Ober said the group returned to Royal around 6 p.m.
