Track teams prepare for district competition

Summerland's track teams packed a one-two punch, May 4, at the Randolph Invite.

The boys' team finished first,scoring 192 points in the five-team field.

The Lady Cats finished second to Ponca, who won with 203 points. Summerland scored 140.

Coach Shannon Schumacher said the girls' team had several highlights.

"Hadley Cheatum led the team on her last meet before districts, with three golds in three events. Bailey Ahlers and Raina Krebs also got first in their events. Lydia Robertson, Caydence Schumacher and Lenora Kester all had a strong showing, earning four medals each," Schumacher said.


Cheatum claimed gold in the 100m hurdles, outdistancing the competition by nearly two seconds. She finished in 16.5. Preslie Robertson ended fourth, a split second ahead of teammate Kester. Robertson ran 18.41 and Kester, 18.5.

Cheatum finished first in the 400m race. She ran 1:02.7. Aubrey Parker ran 1:06.3 to place fifth. Ella Bolling also competed and ran 1:12.3.


Cheatum's next gold came in the 300m hurdles, where she ran 52.1. Kester finished second, running 52.3.

Bailey Ahlers struck gold in high jump. She cleared 5 foot. Caydence Schumacher placed third, reaching 4' 10 and Lydia Robertson, fifth, with a 4' 8 attempt.

Raina Krebs took gold in the shot put, tossing the ball 33' 4.5. Ady Mlnarik picked up a silver medal, with a throw of 30' 9. Kenzie Sanne threw 26' 5.75; Emma Petersson threw 20' 6.5 and Molly Moore ended with a throw of 19' 9.75.

Lenora Kester reached 31' 1.5 in triple jump, placing second. Lydia Robertson placed fourth, landing at 30' 11 and Schumacher ended in fifth, jumping 29' 9.5. In JV competition, Talya Nilson jumped 26' 8.5.

Ashley Pischel earned a silver medal in pole vault. She cleared 7' 6.

"Karley Dawkins set a new mile record," Schumacher said. She finished in 6:35.3 and placed third.

Irelyn Bearinger placed fifth, running 7:39.5.

The varsity 4x100 relay team ended in fifth place. The team ran 57.8, while the junior varsity team ran 57.9 to place sixth.

The girls 3200m relay team finished second, running 13:25.6.

Ella Bolling placed fifth in long jump after she reached 13' 2.75. Ava Rittscher jumped 10' 7.25; Petersson, 10' 9.75 and Kenna Brabec, 9' 2.75.

Schumacher finished sixth in the 100m dash, running 13.9. Jaycee Reynolds narrowly missed a medal, running 14.00.

Yazlin Zermeno competed in the 200m dash. She failed to break finals, running 32.8.

Dawkins ran 3:07 in the 800m. She placed fourth. Shaylie Kester ended fifth, running 3:51.3.

In discus, Petersson missed the cut for finals. She threw 80' 8. Krebs threw 66' 3 and Sanne's throw landed at 57' 7.

In junior varsity, Nilson threw 66' 7 and Moore, 44' 4.

Boys' division

Trevor Thomson claimed the 100m dash gold medal, with a 10.9 performance. Kendrick Schroeder placed third, running 11.89 and Michael Koenig ended fourth, running 12.1.

Alec Schindler earned gold in the 110m hurdles, running 16.3. Koenig earned the silver medal with a 17.3 run.

Summerland's 4x100 relay team smoked the field of four teams, running 45.6, 6.2 seconds ahead of runner-up, Randolph.

Schindler picked up a silver medal in the 300m hurdles and Parker Napier earned bronze. They ran 44.4 and 45.6, respectively.

Ruger Switzer led the boys' high jump field. He cleared 6 foot. Ryan Rifer ended second, with a 5' 10 jump. Carter Bergman ended in fifth after jumping 5' 6.

Parker Napier took gold in long jump. He reached 19' 2. Switzer placed second, with a jump of 18' 5.5. Koenig placed third, with a jump of 17' 2.5.

Three Bobcats placed in triple jump, led by Alec Schindler, who finished second. He jumped 38' 7.5. Jaykwon Petite placed third, jumping 37' 2 and Hoke ended fifth, reaching 35' 10.5.

Ethan Kester cleared 10' in pole vault. The attempt landed him in second place. Napier finished second after clearing 9' 6. Bergman ended in sixth place. He cleared 7 feet.

In the boys' 4x800, Summerland ran 10:50, securing the second-place medal.

Joe Ahlers placed second in shot put, with a toss of 42' 1.75. Gavin Whiting's 40' 7.25 toss was good enough for the fifth-place award. Levi Cronk threw 32' 7.

In the junior varsity division, Jason Shaver threw 25' 4.74, placing second and Kevin Lopez ended third, throwing 19' 10.5.

Whiting brought home a bronze medal in discus. He threw 117' 10. Cronk placed fourth, throwing 113' 9. Ahlers threw 92' 3 and Lopez, 59' 10.

Three Bobcats placed in the 400m dash. Sam Cheatum ran 59.5, placing third. Preston Hoke crossed the line in 59.9, ending fourth, while Connor Thomson's 65.5 landed him in fifth place.

Jaykwon Pete finished third in the 200m dash. He finished in 25.3. Connor Thomson placed sixth, running 26.2.

AJ Hobbs finished fourth in the 1600m, running 5:41.4. Carter Bergman was right behind him, crossing in 5:42.2.
