Bobcat boys claim team title, girls finish second at Summerland Invitational

To the wire • Summerland's Aubrey Parker battles against unidentified runners from Boyd County and Niobrara/Verdigre during at the Bobcat High School Invite, April 23.

The Bobcat boys' track team scored 163 points en route to winning the team title at its April 25 home meet.

North Central finished second, with 95 points and Boyd County finished third with 91.

Trevor Thomson struck gold in the 100m dash, running 11.15. Kendrick Schroeder finished fifth, with a 11.80 time. Shayne Jenkins placed 12th, with a 12.50 race.

Alec Schindler and Michael Koenig finished second and third, respectively, in the 110m hurdles. Schindler ran 16.90, with Koenig crossing in 17.10.

Schindler earned a gold medal in the 300m hurdles. He ran 45.20 to edge out Parker Napier, who finished second, in 45.50. Sam Cheatum placed fifth, crossing in 51.20.


The Bobcats finished one-two-three in high jump. Ruger Switzer won with a jump of 6' 2. Ryan Rifer cleared 5' 10, to place second, and Carter Bergman's 5' 6 jump landed him in the third spot.

The Bobcats swept pole vault competition, as Napier picked up a gold medal after clearing 9' 0. Ethan Kester ended second, going 9' 0 and Cheatum reached 7' 0 to place third.


Gavin Whiting threw 43' 6.5 in shot put, giving him the gold medal. Joe Ahlers' toss of 43' 5.5 landed the Summerland senior in second place. Levi Cronk finished 13th, throwing 33' 2.5.

Whiting ended fourth in discus, with a toss of 116' 11. Cronk earned a sixth-place medal with a throw of 113' 10. Colby Hupp placed 12th, throwing 95' 11.

Napier finished third in long jump after reaching 18' 10. Koenig landed at 18' 5.25, to finish fifth and Switzer jumped 17' 11, placing sixth.

Schindler received second place in triple jump, with a leap of 39' 5.5. Jaykwon Petite earned the fourth-place medal, landing at 37' 2.25. Preston Hoke took home the fifth-place medal after reaching 36' 4.5.

Cheatum finished sixth in the 400m dash. He completed the oval in 59.90. Hoke ended 11th, running 1:02.10 and Connor Thomson placed 12th, crossing the line in 1:03.70.

Jenkins placed 12th in the 200m, running 26.30. Connor Thomson ended 14th, recording a 27.40 time.

Bergman just missed medal contention in the 800m. He ran 2:25.60, placing seventh. Rifer ended eighth, running 2:35.90.

Summerland's 4x100 relay team narrowly earned gold, running 45.70, in front of North Central's squad, which ran 45.80.

In the 4x400, Summerland ran 3:59.90, placing fourth, and in the 4x800, the Bobcat team finished second, in 10:24.60.

Girls' Division

St. Mary's claimed the team title, tallying 141 points. The Bobcats finished second, scoring 111 and Niobrara/Verdigre placed third, scoring 73.

Hadley Cheatum won gold in the 200m, running 27.00. Ella Bolling finished 11th, in 31.10 and Yazlin Zermeno placed 13th, with a 32.50 run.

Cheatum also won the 100m hurdles, with a 16.30 race. Preslie Robertson finished third, running 18.40 and Lenora Kester, sixth, with a 18.90 time.

Cheatum's 48.50 run in the 300m hurdles was solid for first place. Kester finished fifth, running 54.20, while Lydia Robertson ended sixth, running 55.90.

The Lady Bobcats swept the top three positions in high jump. Bailey Ahlers cleared 5' 4 to win gold. Caydence Schumacher finished second, jumping 5' and Lydia Robertson placed third, clearing 4' 8.

Lenora Kester brought home triple jump gold. She landed at 31' 6.75. Schumacher finished fourth, with a 31' 1.5 jump. Lydia Robertson placed fifth, reaching 30' 10.75.

Aubrey Parker picked up a fourth-place medal in the 400m. She ran 1:08.80.

Ashley Pischel finished third in pole vault. She cleared 6' 6.

Ella Bolling earned the sixth-place medal after jumping 13' 3.5 in long jump. Ellie Dougherty finished 12th, jumping 11' 11, while Kenna Brabec reached 8' 9.5, finishing 14th.

Schumacher ran 14.22, placing sixth in the 100m dash. Jaycee Reynolds ran 14.40, placing eighth, while Preslie Robertson crossed in 14.80. She ended 11th.

Raina Krebs threw 33' 6 to place fifth in shot put. Adyson Mlnarik's throw of 30' 4.5 landed her in ninth place and Kenzie Sanne threw 27' 4, placing 12th.

Split seconds • The 110m hurdles race comes down to the final steps between two Summerland and one North Central runners. In the end, Trey Anthony, NC, crossed the line in 16.50 for the win, while Alec Schindler (right) finished second, running 16.90. Michael Koenig (left) ended third, in 17.10

Emma Petersson finished 12th in discus, throwing 77' 2 and Molly Moore finished 16th, with a toss of 48' 4.

Karley Dawkins finished ninth in the 800m, with a 3:10.10 performance.

In the 3200m, Irelyn Bearinger placed fourth, running 16:22.30.

Summerland's 4x100 relay team ended fifth, running 56.80. The 4x400 team placed fourth, with a 5:25.90. In the 4x800, the Bobcats ran 12:16.90, placing second.
