Clearwater village officials notified residents and businesses, Friday, a boil notice will be in effect until further notice.

Per regulations with National Primary Drinking Water Regulations, the village’s public water system violated microbiological standards for E. coli bacteria this month.

Until a cease boil notice is issued, residents should not drink the water without first boiling it. Water should boil for one minute and allowed to cool prior to use. Bottled water is also acceptable.

Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.

According to village clerk, Angie Hupp, officials were hopeful to have the issue fixed before Thanksgiving Day.

E. coli contamination may cause side effects including diarrhea, cramps, nausea and headaches. The bacteria may present health risks for infants and young children, elderly and individuals with compromised immune systems.

Individuals who experience symptoms may want to consult a doctor. Individuals with an increased risk should speak with healthcare providers about drinking thewater.

Village personnel will continue to test its water system and work with the Drinking Water Program to identify the source of contamination so the system may meet compliance regulations.
