-Isms: Views on life in rural America

September 8, 2022

I’m on vacation this week.

At least that’s what I’m telling myself. It’s not like I procrastinated and waited until 3:30, Tuesday afternoon, to write this week’s column.

It isn’t like I had other events to cover and didn’t find the time.

And, it’s not like I didn’t take some me time this weekend and enjoy football with daughter Courtney and grandson Jorden.

I tried to introduce him to all the things I loved about going to LNK with my parents for a football game when I was his age. I’m not sure he was impressed with the Cornhusker Marching Band singing and playing “The Band Song” en route to the stadium. I’m also not sure he liked the $6 piece of semi-cold Valentino’s pizza pedaled in the stadium.

I do know that their seats were a section over from us and I could see him and Courtney laughing at the video screen, dancing in the aisle on a ‘90s throwback song and cheering when the Huskers scored.

It’s a start. Go Big Red.
