A Norfolk woman, who claimed there was not enough evidence to support a burglary charge, was back in the Antelope County district courtroom last week to face the charge.

The Honorable Mark Johnson, on Oct. 4, overruled a plea in abatement motion filed by Antelope County public defender Patrick Carney, on behalf of 55-year-old Debra F. Jordan.

Jordan entered not guilty pleas Oct. 27 to Count I, burglary, a Class 2 felony, and Count II, theft by unlawful taking, a Class 1 misdemeanor. If convicted, Jordan faces up to 20 years in prison on Count I and up to one year and/or $1,000 fine on Count II.

A $10,000 personal recognizance bond is continued. Johnson signed an order Sept. 21 to modify bond, previously set at $10,000, 10% cash, to allow her to attend a four- to six-month treatment program at the Women’s Empowering Life Line in Norfolk. The order includes a stipulation that if she leaves the WELL treatment program unsuccessfully, previous bond will be reinstated and she must report to the Antelope County Jail.

Jordan is accused of the July 15 theft of $1,127 cash from her employer, JB Mart in Tilden.
