Two individuals who exemplify the definition of courage and service will enter the Ewing Hall of Fame.

Sr. M. Joseph and Victor Funk will be honored during a May 30 barbecue, scheduled during the village's 150 plus one Funfest celebration.

Family members of the two inductees will accept the awards.

Beverly Rotherham, who graduated from Ewing High School in 1958, joined Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity in 1973 and took the name Sister M. Joseph.

Victor Funk

Sr. M. Joseph worked as a missionary around the world, including stops in Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Panama, Peru and the U.S.

Victor Funk, a 1942 Ewing High School graduate, served as a corporal in the United States Army, from 1943 to 1945.

Funk was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross in 1944, "for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with the 814 Tank Destroyer Batallion, attached to the 7th Armored Division," according to Army records.

While serving as a gunner on a tank destroyer, the vehicle received direct hits during an attack, causing rubble to fall into the open turret. Crew members evacuated, except for Funk, who drove the vehicle out of enemy fire.
