Ag sales team qualifies for state competition

Levi Cronk, Avery Cheatum, Larissa Thomson and Morgan Erhardt will compete in the virtual state FFA convention next month.

Summerland FFA competed at the district career development events March 3 at NECC. Some events were held virtually at the end of February. Summerland FFA competed in nine different contests, qualifying one team to compete at the virtual State FFA Convention.

The ag sales team advances to state after a second-place finish. Avery Cheatum finished first, earning a purple ribbon; Morgan Erhardt, third, blue; Levi Cronk, seventh, red and Larissa Thomson, eighth, red.

The farm business management team finished seventh and received a blue ribbon. Team members included Cronk, Dillon Moser, Logan Mueller and Madison Melcher.

Joesph Ferris, Ty Rix, Emma Kerkman, Collin Mullins, Jaykwon Petite, Tessa Peed, Riley Fisher and Trevor Thomson also competed.

The floriculture team earned a red ribbon and placed 10th.

Larissa Thomson received a red ribbon. Cheatum, Grace Maxwell and Taelyn Switzer also competed.

In nursery landscape, the team finished sixth and received a red ribbon. Competing were Ashley Melcher, Kerkman, Cassidy Bearinger and Lizett Marino.

The veterinary science team received blue and finished ninth.

Madison Melcher and Larissa Thomson earned red ribbons. Also competing were Petite, Kaci Wickersham, Kelton Bruhn, Trevor Thomson and Kylie Hewett.

Three welding team members received ribbons. Overall, they finished eighth and received a blue. Jesse Thiele competed in gas metal arc welding and earned a red ribbon; Mueller, oxy-acetylen welding, red and Moser, shielded metal arc welding, blue.

The chapter earned a blue and finished seventh in livestock management. Team members include Hewett, Erhardt, Cronk, Madison Melcher and Mullins.

In meats, Morgan Erhardt earned a blue ribbon, landing in seventh place. The team finished third overall. Others receiving ribbons were Rix, blue; Peed, red and Moser, red.

Mueller, Maxwell, Wickersham and Trevor Thomson also participated.

The agriscience team placed eighth and earned a red ribbon.

Individually, Thiele received a red ribbon. Also competing were Ashley Melcher and Bruhn.
