Capital improvements • (l-r): Holt County Ag Society members Jacob Soukup, Kalvin Fahrenholz, Heather Tomjack, Della Grass and Jr. Young break ground for a new concession stand, ticket booth and restroom at the fairgrounds in Chambers, Oct. 14.

At the regular board meeting on Oct. 5, the Holt County Ag Society discussed bids submitted for a proposed concession stand and restroom project at the fairgrounds. On Oct. 14, groundbreaking took place for a new 25-foot by 68-foot concession stand, restroom and ticket booth. Five board members were present to kick off the project.

During the Oct. 5 meeting, the board discussed starting the project this fall, with a tentative completion date of July 15, 2021.

The board has been using a structure built in the 1960s as a food stand and have discussed replacing this with a new building for more than five years.

The public has repeatedly mentioned another restroom facility as a much-needed improvement for the fairgrounds.

Through planning, the board has approved plans to meet both needs and have storage, barbecue serving area and a ticket booth.

Groundwork will begin this fall and, weather permitting, construction may begin this year.

Several grants will fund the project, including the Holt County Improvement Grant, Aksarben Grant and TC Energy donation, along with other donations. Area businesses have pledged donations of labor and services for this project, including Prouty Construction.

Businesses and individuals interested in making a donation or volunteering may contact ag society members.

Bids to run the new food stand for the 2021 year will begin Jan. 1.
