A funeral mass for Maxine Koenig, 88, of Ewing, will be at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 3, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing, with burial to follow in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Fr. John Norman will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., on Tuesday, June 2, with a parish rosary at 7 p.m.
Maxine died on Monday, May 18, 2026, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Memorials may be directed to her family for future designation. Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.

Elizabeth Maxine Noffke was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Ewing, Nebraska, to Frank and Bertha (Bauer) Noffke, the oldest child of five children. Maxine attended school at Ewing Public Schools where she was elected the very first homecoming queen at Ewing in 1955. She graduated with the class of 1956.
After high school, Maxine attended Wayne Normal College to earn a certificate that allowed her to teach. She taught country school for a short time near Ewing. Maxine married her high school classmate, Eugene Koenig, on April 4, 1959, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing. Maxine and Eugene made their home on his family farm, south of Ewing. In 2000, the couple moved into Ewing and Kevin and Ken took over the family farm. Maxine loved living in town because it allowed her to be closer to her mother and be more active with her church.
Maxine was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. When she grew up, she was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing, then on the farm, she was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, then when she moved to town, she was once again a member of St. Peter's. Maxine was a member of the Christian Mothers, and also a member of several quilting clubs.
Maxine loved gardening and was especially proud of her roses. She also enjoyed quilting, baking, and canning. Maxine loved spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's activities. Maxine was a prayerful person and was always praying for them.
Maxine is survived by her children, Connie Koenig of Norfolk, Kenneth (Brittney) Koenig of Ewing, Kevin (Gina) Koenig of Ewing, Cindy (Marcus) Warnke of Lincoln; nine grandchildren, Kurt Sisson of Omaha, Brandi Cox, of Norfolk, Cyra Williams of Norfolk, Natasha (Chris) Dewald of Ewing, Katie (Blake) Cunningham of Ewing, Ashley (Dalton) Rotherham of Ewing, Michael Koenig of Ewing, Hannah Warnke of Lincoln, Hunter Warnke of Lincoln; 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Fran Reedy, Mary (Francis) Heumesser, Jan (Charles) Irwin; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Bertha Noffke; her husband, Eugene in 2024; brother, Larry (Ardis) Noffke; brother-in-law, Bob Reedy; and mother and father-in-law, Adolf and Audrey Koenig.
