Nebraska state troopers don't receive any paid maternity leave, and senators discussed a bill Jan. 30 to change that.
"When we talk about expanding the good life, I believe providing our state employees with six weeks paid leave following the birth or adoption of their child is a great place to start," said State Sen. Dunixi Guereca of Omaha as he introduced his bill to the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.
The Nebraska Association of Public Employees secured paid maternity leave in its 2025-2027 contract with the state of Nebraska, which took effect on July 1, 2025.
