Holt County deputy dies in Antelope County accident

A Wednesday evening accident on the east edge of Neligh resulted in the death of Steven Binkerd, a Holt County sheriff's deputy.

Binkerd's 2012 GMC Sierra pickup slid off the highway around 10:15, Feb. 12, a half-mile east of Neligh, according to the Antelope County Sheriff's Office.

The initial investigation showed Binkerd, 41, was driving west on the highway when he drifted slightly onto the shoulder. He tried to drive back into the roadway but overcorrected, losing control of the pickup. The vehicle crossed the eastbound lane and went into the south ditch.
