Lush and lovely

Life for Jorden Barlow comes full circle.

The 2014 Ewing High School graduate owns and operates The Lush Body Spa, in the administrative office suite, at the former school building.

The spa officially opened April 2. She's booking appointments on Mondays through Thursdays, as well as Saturdays by appointment only.

Barlow earned an associate degree in chiropractic massage in 2017 from the Myotherapy Institute in Lincoln. Since then, she's worked in salons, spas and chiropractic settings in Lincoln and Omaha.

After living in the metro area, Barlow realized her roots were in rural Nebraska.

"We're working on moving back here in next month and getting the business underway," she said.

The Lush Body Spa offers high-quality professional massage services, through a variety of modalities.

"I do custom massage, doing whatever the person is needing at the time," she said.

A session may blend different techniques, including Swedish, deep tissue and acupressure. Sports massage stretches may be eased into during a session, which range from 60 to 90 minutes.

Cupping, a therapy which uses suction to pull on the skin and increase blood flow to an area, is another add-on service offered at the spa.

"It's not for everyone," she said.

Dry brushing can be added as a solo service. A stiff-bristled brush purges flaky, dry skin from the body. Through exfoliation, pores are unclogged and blood circulation increases, which promotes the flow of lymphatic fluid.

Plus, removal of a layer of dead skin cells gives skin a healthy glow.

"I think it makes people feel better after if you don't want full body massage," Barlow said. "After it, you get that glow."

Barlow is still working on the office design. Eventually, she hopes to offer spray tanning in one of the rooms.
