Musicians make their mark at district music contest

What does success sound like?

A vocal soloist nailing a high note, a choir blending in perfect harmony and a band blasting its way through a peppy march.

Summerland musicians experienced sweet success, Friday, at the district music contest in Ainsworth.

High school music director Emily Heithoff reported both the band and choir earned a I, or superior, rating.

Several musicians received superiors in individual or small group performances, including Brandon Pruden, vocal solo; Lenora Kester, vocal solo; Kester and Pruden, vocal duet; Raina Krebs, trombone solo; Kester, flute solo and Yazlin Zermeno, alto saxophone solo.

Amor Zermeno and Yazlin Zermeno teamed for a vocal duet, which received a II, or excellent rating.

Landon McAllister and Pruden performed a vocal duet and earned a II.
