Ewing trustees approve downtown lighting

Ewing’s business district will soon have a new look.

During its Feb. 12 meeting, village trustees approved a down payment to JTK Holiday Lighting for installation of lights on Nebraska Street businesses.

The total price tag for the project will run approximately $16,000. Trustees agreed to use keno funds to make the $8,000 down payment.

Chairman James Ramold said the remainder of the project cost will come from donations or businesses may pay some of the cost.

“Keno funds would cover the rest as a last resort,” Ramold told the “Advocate-Messenger” following the meeting.

The project was first discussed in January, when Rita Anson approached the board about considering installation of lights.

Trustee Kane Fry said controls to run the lights run $300 to $400 and said the properties could be divided into four quadrants with one spot to run it.

“That would be the most economical,” Fry said.

In other business, trustees:

• Granted approval for a liquor license at White Star Oil Company;

• Approved a contract, for $2,359.80, with Complete Pest Elimination, for mosquito spraying for 2024; and

• Hired Superior Turf Management for lawn spraying and fertilizer application at the playground and baseball field. The price of the contract totals $2,233.
