Four selected to interview for Summerland superintendent position

Summerland Public Schools could announce who will serve as superintendent for the next school year as soon as Wednesday, Feb. 7, once interviews for the position conclude.

Four candidates were slated to interview Feb. 6 and 7. Those candidates are Molly Aschoff, assistant administrator at Educational Service Unit #8, Chris Lecher, Franklin Public Schools superintendent; Nick Mumm, Ph.D., Giltner Public Schools superintendent and Nathan Weaver, K-12 principal and transportation director at Loomis Public Schools.

Molly Aschoff

Aschoff has more than 25 years experience in education, including 15 years in an elementary setting.

Currently, she serves as the assistant administrator at ESU #8 in Neligh. While at ESU 8, Aschoff also served as the distance learning coordinator and media specialist and digital learning coordinator.


For 15 years, she taught elementary classes and K-8 special education at Valentine elementary school.

Aschoff received a bachelor's degree in elementary education and special education from the University of Nebraska Kearney and completed a master's degree in elementary and middle school administration/principalship, from UNK in 2003.

She also has an educational specialist certificate from Wayne State College.

Chris Lecher

Chris Lecher

Lecher's experience includes an eight-year stint as a science teacher at Gothenburg Public Schools. He filled principal positions at Lyons-Decatur Northeast and Bridgeport before becoming superintendent at Franklin.

He has a bachelor's degree in natural science from Chadron State College, a Master of Education in secondary school administration/principalship through Concordia University and an education specialist degree in school administration from Wayne State College.

Dr. Nick Mumm

Nick Mumm, Ph.D.

Mumm currently serves as superintendent of Giltner Public Schools.

He earned his undergraduate and master's degrees at UNK and a doctorate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

For seven years, Mumm served as director of academic services at Elkhorn St. Patrick's and has taught at Sandhills, in Dunning, and Superior. His first administrator job was at Santee.

Nathan Weaver

Ed. note Weaver accepted another position prior to interviewing for the Summerland job and did not go through the process with SPS.

Weaver, a Nebraska native, has served as K-12 principal at Loomis Public Schools since 2018. He previously served at ESU #10.
