Five Bobcats reach medal stand at Neligh-Oakdale Invite

Perfect • Raina Krebs takes down Cady Schaaf, Friday, in a match at the Neligh-Oakdale girls' wrestling invite.

The temperatures may have been sub-zero, Friday, but the action in Elmer Lindahl Gymnasium, in Neligh, was hot. Five Summerland girls' wrestling team members left the Neligh-Oakdale Invite with medals.

Raina Krebs, Ava Cleveland, Ammy Arroyo, Kaylee Thiele and Lenora Kester finished first, first, second, third and fourth, respectively.

The Bobcats finished fifth in the 15-team tourney, scoring 90 points. Norfolk High took top honors, with 200.5 points. Lakeview earned the runner-up trophy, scoring 126 points. Elkhorn Valley finished third with 99 points and West Holt, fourth, with 93.

Krebs, wrestling in the 235-pound division, was perfect on the day, pinning Maria Alvarez-Reyes, Omaha South, in 1:26; Kaylee Shively, Boone Central; in 1:10; Holly Rochette, Franklin, in 4:30 and WH's Cady Schaaf, in 4:26

In the 190-pound class, Arroyo earned a silver medal. En route, she pinned Aubrey Nykodym, Elkhorn Valley, in 1:24 and Luna Diza Gonza, Omaha South, in 1:10 In round three, Arroyo pinned Raegen Mangelsen, Norfolk, in 5:07 and pinned Juleyli Garcia-Marin in 4:31. In the fifth round, Libby Evans, EPPJ, defeated Arroyo 8-6.

Cleveland competed in the 110-pound division. She earned gold after picking up a pin over Ayana Valdez, Norfolk, in 5:46 and Ayshia Delancey, Lakeview, in 3:30.

Thiele competed in the 135-pound class. She pinned Sierra Bloos, Franklin, in 2:34 and lost a 6-1 decision to Laila Cuevas, Norfolk. Thiele bounced back with a pin over Marissa Colegrove, Lakeview, in 4:24. Thiele pinned Fullerton's Riley Thomas, in 2:25, to bring home a third-place medal.

Competing in the 115-pound class, Kester lost by fall in 2:36, to Norfolk's Caidence Bethards. In the consolation round, she defeated Hailee Cox, Norfolk, by fall, in 1:26 and advanced to the third-place match after pinning Chloe Boyer, of Norfolk, in 1:25. Josslyn Hoefer, NO, claimed a 4-2 decision over Kester to secure a bronze medal.

Others competing for the Bobcats included:

• 105: Yazlin Zermeno pinned Gabby Landauer, Boone Central, in 4:00. Zermeno lost by fall, to Jazmin Haller, Norfolk, in 1:59. In the consolation bracket, she lost a 13 - 5 major decision to Kayden Cash, Norfolk.

• 120: Savannah Gallagher lost a 4-0 decision to Felycia Kerkman, WH. Gallagher picked up a consolation match win over Marlene Centeno, Omaha South, by fall, in 2:26 and dropped an 11-7 decision to Kennedy Werner, Norfolk, in the conslation semifinal.

• 120: Beatriz Milkem lost a first-round match by fall, in 2:55, to acy Lemburg, Lakeview. In the consolation round, Chloe Kokes, Ord, eliminated Milkem after pinning the Bobcat competitor in 1:48.

• 125: Gracie Mudloff pinned Alicia Ramirez-Torres, Wisner-Pilger in 1:16, and lost by fall, in 4:25, to Madalyn Pistulka, WH. In the consolation round, Mudloff defeated Caydence Liester, EV, in 2:13 before being pinned by Braylen Fielder, Kenesaw, in 2:18.

• 140: Abby Arroyo lost by fall in 2:39 to Morgan Finecy, Lakeview and lost 8-5 to Delylia Olson, Fullerton.

• 170: Kyah Bruhn lost by pin to West Holt's Brooke Carey and lost a 9-5 decision to Raelyn Brummels, EV.
