Chambers man sentenced for third DUI

Alex T. Berglund, 32, of Chambers faced the Honorable Kale Burdick in the Holt County courtroom in O’Neill on Jan. 2, to be sentenced on his conviction of DUI, third offense.

Berglund pleaded no contest in November 2023, per terms of a plea agreement with Holt County attorney Brent Kelly, to the charge that was reduced from driving under the influence of alcohol, high test, third offense.

Burdick placed Berglund on probation for 30 months. He ordered payment of $930 in probation fees, $105 costs of prosecution and a $1,000 fine. He was also sentenced to a 30-day commitment in the Holt County Jail, with credit for one day previously served.

Berglund was arrested Aug. 19, 2023, by a Holt County deputy who responded to a report of Berglund’s erratic driving near Kennedy’s Corner east of O’Neill. According to an affidavit filed by the officer, the result of Berglund’s preliminary breath test was .189, with a Datamaster result, when he was booked at the Holt County Jail, of .175.

Berglund was represented by Michael Sholes of O’Neill.

William E. Roberts, 36, of O’Neill appeared in front of Burdick on Jan. 9. He pleaded guilty to a Class 3 misdemeanor, disturbing the peace, pursuant to a plea agreement with Kelly, who recommended a fine.

Burdick fined Roberts $50 and taxed him $50 for the Aug. 30, 2023, offense. Roberts was represented by Holt County public defender Rod Smith.

Nicholas C. Waldo, 45, of Chambers pleaded guilty, by waiver, to leaving a brand area without an inspection, an infraction committed Nov. 9, 2023, eight miles west of Chambers. He was fined $200 and $49 costs.
