South Dakota riders win two of three rough stock events

Competitors from across Nebraska and South Dakota converged on Clearwater, July 22, for the third annual Rough Stock Challenge, sponsored by the local chamber of commerce.

Jumping off point • An unidentified saddle bronc rider leaps off the horse during Saturday's Rough Stock Challenge, held in Clearwater. Approximately 30 competitors took part in the event.

Chase YellowHawk, of St. Francis, South Dakota, took the top spot in bareback riding. He scored 76 points.

Whitten Hoover, of Ainsworth, and Spencer Denaeyer, of Seneca, scored 74 points, tying for the second spot.

In the saddle bronc division, Jackson Ford, of Sturgis, South Dakota, took home the first-place prize after scoring 77 points.

Brody McAbee, of Ansley, scored 75 points, edging out Cooper West, of Philip, South Dakota, for second and third, respectively. Jack Skavdahl, of Harrison, and Monte Bailey, of Ashby, both scored 71, tying for fourth.

Sutherland's Cole Kerner led the field of bull riders. He scored 82 points to win the division. Riley Shippey, of Colome, South Dakota, scored 79 points, finishing second, while Greeley's Ben Wood ended third, after scoring 73 points.
