-Isms: Views on life in rural America

Another year, another successful Clearwater Rodeo in the books.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, it takes an entire village to work together to put on one of the greatest shows on dirt.

Thank you to every person who volunteered to make the weekend a success. Whether you sold program advertising, worked in the concession stand, assisted with construction of the new chamber facility, ran chutes, worked security detail or picked up trash, your help is genuinely appreciated. Volunteers are the unsung heroes of the event and we are lucky to have a community full of hardworking and dedicated volunteers.

Now, after a smidgeon of rest, the chamber will begin planning the 57th edition. I think it’s important to reflect on what went well, where we, as chamber and community members, can improve and how to keep the tradition fresh and entertaining. I’ve heard a lot of positive comments and a was given a few pieces of constructive criticism I’ve passed along to other committee members. That’s great to hear feedback.

I am impressed with the three-night lineup of competitors and welcome the addition of the rookie rough stock events. It’s encouraging to watch the sport grow. I didn’t know breakaway roping is the fastest-growing rodeo event until announcer Jarod Slagle mentioned it. The large crowds every night were amazing, also. You never know what to expect - people are busy and weather can be a factor - but seeing the grandstands filled nightly made me happy.

Thank you, again, for making the best weekend in June even better. Looking forward to year 57.
