Ahlers, Cheatum bring home gold from district track competition

A sophomore and a senior punched their tickets to the 2023 Nebraska School Activities Association Class C State Track and Field Championships after qualifying at districts, last Thursday, in Atkinson.

Bailey Ahlers claimed gold in high jump. She cleared 5' 3.

Caydence Schumacher finished fourth and Lydia Robertson, fifth, in the event. Both cleared 4' 11.

Cheatum won the 400m dash, setting the pace at 1:00.02, a season record for the University of South Dakota track commit.

Cheatum hit gold a second time in the 300m hurdles, running 46.77.

She finished fourth in the 100m hurdles, running 16.32, good enough to get a wildcard spot for the state meet.

The 4x800 team earned the fifth-place medal, running 12:06.36. Team members include Aubrey Parker, Irelyn Bearinger, Ellie Dougherty and Karlie Dawkins.

The 4x100 team - Jaycee Reynolds, Lydia Robertson, Ella Bolling and Schumacher, finished sixth, running 56.31.

Dawkins: 10th, 1600m, 6:37.59, personal record;

Parker: 11th, 400m, 1:09.55, PR;

Preslie Robertson: 11th, 100m hurdles, 18.41;

Adyson Mlnarik: 12th, shot put, 28’ 10.75; 17th, discus, 80’ 9, PR;

Emma Petersson: 13th, discus, 83’ 5, PR;

Lenora Kester: 16th, 100m hurdles, 19.15; seventh, 300m hurdles, 50.71, PR; ninth, triple jump, 31’ 10;

Bearinger: 15th, 1600m, 7:05.86, PR;

Schumacher: 15th, 100m dash, 14.27, PR:

Bolling: 15th, 200m dash, 30.76, PR; 14th, long jump, 13’ 6;

Lydia Robertson: 16th, 300m hurdles, 56.28;

Reynolds: 16th, 100m dash, 14.47, PR; 15th, triple jump, 28’ 8;

Shaylie Kester: 16th, 800m, 3:34.39;

Talya Nilson: 17th, triple jump, 27’ 1;

Yazlin Zermeno: 19th, 200m dash, 32.44;

Dougherty: 21st, long jump, 11’ 10.75;

Kenzie Sanne: 22nd, shot put, 25’ 1;

Kenna Brabec: 22nd, 100m dash, 19.46;

Ava Rittscher: no distance, long jump;

and the 4x400 relay ended seventh, running 4:56.30. Team members include Parker, Bolling, Zermeno and Dawkins.
