Tracksters finish third in conference

Coach Shannon Schumacher's boys' and girls' track and field teams had a "fantastic showing" at Saturday's Niobrara Valley Conference meet in Atkinson. Both teams finished third in their divisions.

West Holt won the girls' division, scoring 191 points. St. Mary's totaled 91 for second place. The Bobcats and Elkhorn Valley tied for third, scoring 76.

In the boys' division, West Holt scored 192 points to take the team title. EV took the runner-up trophy after scoring 141.5 points. The Bobcats scored 88 for third.

Girls' results

Hadley Cheatum grabbed the gold in the 100m hurdles. After leading the field with 16.96 in prelims, Cheatum shaved time, breaking the tape in 16.54. Preslie Robertson placed sixth, running 18.39. Lenora Kester placed 12th in prelims, with a 19.33 time.

Cheatum brought home silver in the 300m hurdles, after a season-record performance of 46.57. Kester ended ninth, running 54.47, while Lydia Robertson ran 55.64, placing 11th.

Cheatum finished third in the 400m, running 1:02.19. Aubrey Parker ran 1:10.22, placing 14th.

Cheatum sat fourth in the 200m following prelims and ran 28.60 in the finals to place sixth. Ella Bolling ended in 18th, running 31.67, while Yazlin Zermeno ran 32.17, placing 20th.

Three Bobcats placed in high jump. Caydence Schumacher earned silver, while Lydia Robertson and Bailey Ahlers ended third and fourth, respectively. All three cleared 4' 10.

Lenora Kester set a personal record in triple jump, reaching 32' 2.5. She finished second. Schumacher finished fourth after jumping 31' 4.5, a PR, and Lydia Robertson set a PR, finishing fifth, after reaching 31' 1.25.

Ashley Pischel tied for fourth in pole vault, clearing 7'6. The attempt was good for a PR.

Ella Bolling reached 13' 4.5 in long jump. The jump set a PR for Bolling, who finished ninth. Ellie Dougherty landed in the 14th spot with a jump of 11' 11. Ava Rittscher ended in 20th. She jumped 10' 4.

Schumacher finished 14th in the 100m, running 14.68. Jaycee Reynolds ended 19th, running 15.03. Preslie Robertson ran 15.12 to place 20th.

In the 800m, Karlie Dawkins ran 2:58.01, setting a PR. She finished 14th. Shaylie Kester ran 3:37.67, in 20th.

Dawkins finished 12th in the 1600m, running 6:51.62, a PR.

Irelyn Bearinger established a PR in the 3200, running 15:51.92. She finished 11th.

Raina Krebs threw 29'9 in shot put to place 14th. Adyson Mlnarik was right behind Krebs, throwing 29' 7.25, in 15th. Kenzie Sanne finished 21st, with a throw of 24' 11.

In discus, Emma Petersson led Bobcat throwers, with a toss of 76' 8, a PR. She landed in 17th place. Talya Nilson placed 25th, with a toss of 62' 1.

The 4x100 team, comprised of Reynolds, Lydia Robertson, Bolling and Schumacher combined for a 57.52 run to place seventh.

Parker, Bearinger, Dougherty and Dawkins completed the 4x800 race in 12:38.12, placing fifth.

Boys' results

Alec Schindler claimed gold in triple jump, setting a PR, with a leap of 40' 6.5. Jaykwon Petite reached 38' 4.75 to place seventh, a PR. Preston Hoke placed 11th after clearing 35' 3.

Senior thrower Joe Ahlers brought home gold in shot put, with a toss of 43' 6. Gavin Whiting ended fourth, throwing 42' 3.5. Levi Cronk placed 21st, with a throw of 33' 10.

The 4x100 team - Petite, Kendrick Schroeder, Schindler and Trevor Thomson - ran 45.73, placing second.

Thomson led the 100m field in prelims, setting the pace at 11.43. Schroeder entered finals in the seventh spot, running 12.06. In finals, Thomson ran 11.24, a season record, placing second. Schroeder set a PR with an 11.97 performance.

Ruger Switzer placed third and Ryan Rifer, fourth, in high jump. Both cleared 5' 10.

Schindler ran 44.95 and Parker Napier, 46.16, to finish fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 300m hurdles. Napier's run established a PR.

In the 110m hurdles, Schindler and Koenig were third and fourth after preliminary runs, including a PR of 16.99 for Schindler. In finals, Schindler ended fourth, running 17.28. Koenig placed sixth, with a 17.73 time.

Koenig finished eighth in long jump after landing at 18' 9. Napier placed 12th, with a jump of 18' 2.5 and Switzer ended 13th, with a jump of 18' 1.75.

Ethan Kester cleared 10' in pole vault, setting a PR and placing fifth. Napier ended sixth, clearing 9' 6.

A toss of 117' 7 landed Cronk in sixth place in discus. Gavin Whiting threw 108' 9 to place 12th. Colby Hupp ended 23rd, throwing 88' 1.5.

Jody Schindler

In the 1600m, AJ Hobbs ran 5:40.20, a season record. He ended ninth overall. Caden Mendoza placed 14th and set a PR with a 6:38.54 run.

Rifer placed 14th in the 800m, setting a PR with a run of 2:34.89. Mendoza established a PR in the race, finishing 16th, in 2:37.12.

Cheatum ended in 13th place in the 400m. He ran 59.83. Koenig placed 14th, running 1:00.49, a PR. Connor Thomson finished 18th, with a 1:04.20.

Shayne Jenkins set a PR in the 200m. He ran 26.03 in prelims, ending in 14th. Kester set a PR with a run of 27.03, placing 19th.Connor Thomson ended 21st, setting a season record at 27.33.

The 4x400 team of Sam Cheatum, Petite, Hoke and Napier ended sixth, running 4:02.59.
