Track team to host elementary meet, clinic

Summerland elementary students in grades four through six will have an opportunity to learn fundamental skills and techniques associated with track and field events during an upcoming clinic.

The Summerland track and field team and coaches will host the clinic, Saturday, April 15, at noon.

Beginning at 2:30, elementary students will be able to showcase newly-learned skills in a meet. Events available for competition include the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m races, long jump and shot put.

Organziers said students may pick which events they would like to compete in and are not obligated to participate in all events.

Ribbons will be awarded to first through eight place in each event in both boys' and girls' divisions in each grade.

A concession stand will be available.

"Parents are more than welcome to come and stay for the day, but please stay in the bleacher area and off of the field," organizers said.
