Krebs crowned district wrestling champ

Summerland's Raina Krebs sat at the top of the 235-pound class bracket during the A2 district wrestling championships, last weekend in Madison.

When competition ended Saturday, Krebs remained on top and brought home the gold medal, earning a trip to Omaha's CHI Event Center, Feb. 16 - 18.

Krebs defeated Eva Beckman, Logan View, by fall in 3:21 in the quarterfinal and escaped the semifinal match with a 1-0 win over Battle Creek's Alexis Anderson.

In the championship match, Krebs stayed focused and earned a 3-0 decision over Omaha Marian's Amaya McLaren.

Krebs will be the lone competitor for the Summerland girls' team at the state meet.

Three TeamMates were eliminated Friday.

Emma Petersson upset the third seed of the 170-pound class, Ella May Shevlin, in the first championship round, pinning the Columbus wrestler in :58.

In the quarterfinal, Petersson lost by fall, in 3:06, to Marian's Hillary Adovlo.

In the consolation round, it came down to the final minute of the match, with Grace Eickmeier, David City, winning, 7-2.

Jadyn Hobbs dropped her first match, against Lyons-Decatur Northeast's Alizabeth Witley, who pinned the Bobcats' 140-pound competitor in 1:55. Hobbs responded with a quick pin, in :33, over Jocelyn Russman of Wisner-Pilger in the first consolation round.

She faced Mayte Alandra Flores Garcia, of Wakefield, in the second consolation round and lost by a 13-0 major decision.

Ashley Melcer was pinned in the opening round of a 120-pound class match. Cadence Smaus won by fall, in 1:10.

Following a bye, Chloe Wattier, of Battle Creek, pinned Melcher in :45.
