Bobcat wrestlers open season at Wisner-Pilger triangular

Summerland’s wrestling teams started the 2022-23 season at the Wisner-Pilger triangular. The girls’ team finished 1-1.

In the first dual, the Lady Cats defeated W-P, 36-18, with Amor Zermeno, Lenora Kester, Ashley Melcher, Jadyn Hobbs, Emma Petersson and Raina Krebs winning matches by forfeit.

Wayne squeaked past the Bobcats, 36-30. Summerland won matches in two classes. Lenora Kester pinned Macy Wilson, in :07, in the 115-pound division. Kester’s win set the school’s fastest pin record. Ashley Melcher earned a win, by fall, over Hannah Burris, in 1:06.

The Bobcats picked up wins, by forfeit, by Jadyn Hobbs, 145; Emma Peterson, 190; and Raina Krebs, 235.

Wayne’s Raegan Maas pinned Amor Zermeno, in 2:37. Wayne picked up wins, by forfeit, in the 125, 130, 135, 140 and 155 divisions.

In the boys’ division, W-P defeated Summerland, 45-18.

Connor Thomson lost to Gabe Liermann, by fall, in 1:38, in the 132-pound division. Jesse Thiele fell to Walker Ott in 5:47 in a 138-pound class match. Keaton Thiele dropped a 3-2 decision to Keegan Poppe in the 160-pound class. AJ Hobbs lost, by fall, in 1:00, to Logan Nelson.

Kendrick Schroeder, 182-pound division, and Alex Thiele, 120-pound division, earned wins by forfeit.

Wayne defeated the Bobcats, 51-12.

Alex Thiele earned a win in the 120-pound division, with a 3-2 decision over Garrett Schultz. Keaton Thiele defeated Eli Barner by sudden victory, 9-7, in a match in the 160-pound class.

In the 132-pound class, Connor Thomson lost, by fall, in 1:05, to Alex Frank. Grant Maas won a 5-2 decision over Logan Kester in the 138-pound class. In the 145-pound class, Willis Mast was pinned, in 1:04, by Ashton Munsell.

Wayne’s Joseph Woerdemann, Elliot Ping, Aiden Liston, Lakin Stanse, Eli Alexander and Carter Wiese earned wins by forfeit.
