Mark the calendars for Oct. 29 for a spooktacular Halloween event at the Antelope County Museum. Youths ages two to 15 are invited to attend the event, which will feature food, the announcement of art contest winners and an appearance by a special guest.

Museum executive director Donna Hanson said the event is free and will include a lunch of hot dogs, chips, drink and dessert. It will follow the Trick or Trunk event, sponsored by the Neligh-Oakdale Future Business Leaders of America Chapter and the Neligh Chamber of Commerce, in Neligh’s Riverside Park. Hanson said the museum event will start at approximately 11:30 a.m., at the museum’s log cabin at 410 L Street. The event ends at 1 p.m.

“I don’t want to give away the surprise portion of the event, but it will include an appearance by my horse, Raven,” Hanson said.

The museum is sponsoring an art contest open to all young people in three age categories: 2 to 5 years old, 6 to 10 years old and 11 to 15 years old. Contestants may choose to enter art with either a fall or Halloween theme. Two winners will be selected from each age category, prizes awarded.

Entries must be submitted to the museum by Oct. 20.

The Antelope County Museum has preserved the history of Antelope County since 1886. The museum complex includes the historic main museum, one-room schoolhouse, log cabin and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
