Wright submits winning bid for Ewing school property

Dustin Wright, of Ewing, submitted a $50,000 bid for the Ewing School property. Summerland Board of Education accepted the bid at its Sept. 14 meeting.
Ewing businessman Dustin Wright is the new owner of the former Ewing School property.
Summerland School Board of Education members approved his $50,000 bid, Sept. 14, during the board's monthly meeting.
The bid includes the former elementary and high school buildings and grounds, an empty lot southeast of the high school and the football field.
Summerland Superintendent Kyle Finke said four bids were received by the Sept. 8 deadline.
In addition to Wright's offer, bids were received from Randy Kaczor, of Ewing, for $21,000 and George Duncan, of Medville, Missouri, for $21,000.
One bid, submitted on a handwritten sheet, did not include the required 10% deposit. Finke said he did not consider that bid.
Board member Steven Thiele asked if contents the school district intends to retain have been removed.
Finke said one-act play production props, track equipment and a scissor lift remain in the building. He has talked to Wright about those items, which will be removed.
In other business, board members:
• heard public comment about school safety procedures;
• approved a bid submitted by Commercial Bus & Vehicle, LLC, in the amount of $4,152 for four vans which had been removed from the district's fleet;
• discussed a use-of-facility agreement. After suggested additions and changes were made, the board approved the proposed agreement;
• accepted bids for proposed landscaping and sod placement around the track and the Summerland School sign. Total cost of the project will not exceed $15,000.
