Memorial services for Larry L. Pendergast, 78 of Inman, will be Saturday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. A private graveside gathering for immediate family will follow the service.

The family will host a celebration of life for Larry following the graveside gathering, at the Zion Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.

Larry died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk after a brief illness (pulmonary fibrosis). He was blessed to spend the last days of his life surrounded by loved ones and sharing stories with them that they will cherish forever.

Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin's Mortuary of O'Neill.

Larry was born Nov. 18, 1943, in Plainview, to Robert A. and Naomi (Krause) Pendergast. Larry grew up in Plainview with his parents and brother, Lyle. At 16, Larry moved to Lincoln, where he got his first job as a carpenter/mason. A few years later, he moved back to his hometown to work with his dad and uncle in the cement business. Larry was a self-employed carpenter/mason his entire life, even in retirement.

Larry and his family lived in Longmont, Colorado, for a few years but spent most of his life in and around the Plainview area. Later in life, Larry moved with his wife, Shirley, to an acreage in Inman.

Larry's hobbies included fishing in Nebraska, as well as South Dakota, and taking yearly fishing trips to Canada. Most of all, he enjoyed having coffee with his friends every morning and playing cards with his family whenever he got the chance. To know Larry was to love him. He was a small man with a huge heart and would lend a helping hand to anyone. He loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with them near and far.

Larry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley; five children, Bobbie (Rob) Borchers, Sheila (Jeff) Herfel, Lisa (Chris) Elsten, Mike (Molly) Pendergast, Jolene (Tyler) Sanne; brother. Lyle (Peggy) Pendergast; 14 grandchildren: Brittany (Michael) Yardley, Brandon and Alex Borchers, Ashley (Noah) Jensen, Justin, Jamie, and Kayla Herfel, Tyler (Liz) Elsten, Michael (Ashley) Elsten, Andrew and Matthew Elsten, Kaleb and Kamden Pendergast, Hannah Sanne; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Robert A. and Naomi Pendergast, several uncles, aunts and many other family members throughout the years.
