Hometown haircuts • Jaimie Hartigan's Shear Attitude has been a staple in Ewing since the early 2000s.

Jaimie Hartigan, owner of Shear Attitude in Ewing, lives by the quote "Be your own kind of beautiful" with her customers.

"Many people ask 'What would look good?' To me, I'm like 'If you love your haircut, it's going to look great'," said Hartigan.

Hartigan was raised in Ewing. Once she graduated high school, she attended hair school at Bahner College of Cosmetology in Fremont, where she graduated in 1997. After that, she moved to Kearney for almost three years then moved back to Ewing to start her own business at 416 Nebraska Street.

She credits the name of her salon to her best friend Angie Robertson.

She remembers calling Robertson to tell her she bought the building and asking for help naming it.

Robertson sent a list of names but told Hartigan she would save the best for last. Robertson was down to two when she sent the name Shear Attitude.

"We always used to love to watch the Lifetime channel, and there is always like the 'New Attitude' commercial on there," Hartigan said.

"She said 'Shear Attitude' and I said 'Yup', and Angie said that fit me perfectly, so Angie named it for me."

Hartigan got her business started in December of 2000, and she is still as passionate about it now as she was when she first began.

"I love what I do and not everyone can say they love their job," Hartigan said smiling. "I absolutely love my job. I've never dreaded coming to work. I'm very blessed."

Once Hartigan started having children, she decided she didn't want to miss any time with them, so she works two times a week to spend more time with her two kids. Hartigan thanks her loyal, dedicated customers from over the years.

Shear Attitude is open on Tuesday's from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday's 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. She is also open on Saturday's from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. She offers haircuts, colors, highlights, waxing, a tanning bed and dipped powder nails.

"This business is everything to me because I love people and I love hair so what better way to mix it together to come to your job and absolutely love what you do."

Hartigan is also a Seint artist. Seint is a make up line that has cream makeup that is easy for all ages. She is willing to do a free consultation any time. For more information, contact Jaimie at 402-649-7824.

Looking at the future, Hartigan hopes to someday build a salon next to her house to give her husband a place to work as well.

"It's special because it's back home in my hometown and I love being home," stated Hartigan. "I never thought I would have came home as soon as I did, but I'm very grateful to be home. All three communities: Ewing, Clearwater, and Orchard, plus other surrounding communities, were just very supportive of me."
