Bobcats off to quick start at 2022 state track and field championships

If perfect weather for a track and field meet exists, Mother Nature provided a picture perfect backdrop at Friday's Class C NSAA State Track and Field Championships, at Omaha Burke Stadium.

Junior Trevor Thomson advances to tomorrow's 100m finale. Thomson won the first heat, running 11.12.

In Saturday's championship race, scheduled to run at 3:25 p.m., Thomson will race against Koa McIntyre, Archbishop Bergan, who led the field, running 10.94. Other qualifiers include Harrison Klein, Louisville, 11.01; Gage Steinke, Grand Island Central Catholic, 11.06; Mitchell Hupp, Stanton, 11.17; Caid McCart, West Holt, 11.19; Jenson Anderson, Hastings St. Cecilia, 11.24 and Cade Hosier, Elmwood-Murdock, 11.25.

Thomson also made the cut for Saturday's 200m final, running 22.99 in the prelim.

He will face McIntyre, Bergan, 22.34; Caden Denker, David City, 22.37; Brayton Johnson, GICC, 22.78; McCart, West Holt, 22.79; Carter Nelson, Ainsworth, 22.88; Hupp, Stanton, 22.88 and Logan Turek, Wood River, 22.90. The final will run at 5:10 p.m.

Hadley Cheatum won her heat in the 400m to advance to Saturday's 3:50 p.m. final. Cheatum ran 59.97 and will race against Story Rasby, Sutherland, 57.88; Bryn McNair, Chase County, 58.29; Laney Kathol, Hartington Cedar Catholic, 58.90; Josi Noble, Cross County, 1:00.04; Jocelynn Skoda, Guardian Angels Central Catholic, 1:00.61; Tacey From, Valentine, 1:00.70 and Tenley Hadwiger, Amherst, 1:00.73.

Cheatum just missed qualifying to the 100 hurdles final. She ran 15.83, but needed to beat 15.63 to advance.

Cheatum won her heat in the 300m hurdles. She qualifies for Saturday's final, set to run at 4:50 p.m.

She will face Adrianna Rodencal, of Lincoln Lutheran, who led the field with 45.96. Also competing tomorrow will be Kayla Svoboda, Wisner-PIlger, 46.84; Kinslee Bosak, Bishop Neumann, 46.90; Ellie Tramp, Crofton, 47.23; Kailee Potts, Perkins County, 47.29; Kali Jurgensmeier, Bishop Neumann, 47.65 and Kate Griess, Sutton, 48.29.

Bailey Ahlers will compete in high jump, Saturday. The event begins at 11:30 a.m.

Cheatum will run in the second section in tomorrow's 800m final, set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
