Summerland band, choir earn superior ratings

Summerland musicians competed in the district music contest, Friday, at West Holt.

Director Emily Heithoff said the band received straight ones, or superiors, from a panel of three judges.

The high school choir received a one (superior) rating.

Five soloists received superior ratings, including Calissa Kester, Adrienne Parker, Cassidy Bearinger, Lenora Kester and Emma Kerkman.

Three duets earned superior ratings, including Calissa and Lenora Kester; Cassidy Bearinger and Lenora Kester and Adrienne Parker and Lenora Kester.

Two instrumentalists earned superiors. Adrienne Parker earned a one with a trumpet solo and Calissa Kester received a one for a clarinet solo.

Lenora Kester earned a two, excellent, with a flute solo.

Charlie Anson received a two on the tenor sax.

Anson and Parker combined efforts on an instrumental duet and were rewarded with a superior.
