Teen gets year in county jail for assault on county employee

Haiden M. Sleister, 18, of Tilden appeared in the Antelope County courtroom in Neligh on April 6, to be sentenced for the assault of a county road worker last fall.

The Honorable Donna Taylor sentenced Sleister to one year in the Antelope County Jail for third-degree assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor, with credit for 25 days previously served. He was sentenced to a concurrent 30 days in the county jail and his driver’s license was revoked for one year for willful reckless driving, a Class 3 misdemeanor, and was taxed $60 costs of prosecution. Sleister was represented by Antelope County public defender Melissa Figueroa.

He pleaded guilty to the offenses Jan. 5, pursuant to a plea agreement. Sleister, who turned 18 on the day of the assault, Sept. 23, 2021, was arrested Sept. 25, following an investigation into injuries sustained by the county employee near the Oakdale village lagoon. The worker had confronted Sleister and his companions prior to the assault, after he had witnessed Sleister, who was the driver of a vehicle, and two others who were riding on the outside of the vehicle.

Breanna M. McNutt, 21, of Stanton, was sentenced to an eight-month term of probation for third-degree assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor, and criminal mischief, a Class 2 misdemeanor. She was ordered to pay probation fees totaling $270, costs of $60 and $1,694.58 restitution - $729.58 to Antelope County deputy Shelby Keetle and $965 to the Antelope County Sheriff’s Department.

Represented by Frederick Bartell of Norfolk, McNutt pleaded guilty per terms of a plea deal, Dec. 15, 2021. Count I was reduced from a felony assault of an officer charge. She was being booked into the Antelope County Jail on Stanton County charges Oct. 12, 2021, when she assaulted Keetle and broke glass in a window of a jail cell.

Ian T. McConkey, 30, of Mankato, Minnesota, was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail and fined $500 for attempted possession of a controlled substance, a Class 1 misdemeanor, a charge reduced from a felony possession charge in a plea deal. He was represented by Figueroa.

Roger R. Hauf, 20, of O’Neill appeared in front of Taylor for sentencing. Taylor sentenced Hauf to an 18-month term of probation, including related fees totaling $580, for driving under the influence of alcohol, second offense, a Class W misdemeanor. His driver’s license was revoked for 18 months and he was assessed $150 costs of prosecution. Hauf was represented by Figueroa. He pleaded guilty to the Sept. 12, 2021, offense Feb. 2, pursuant to a plea agreement.

Hope M. Llanos, 32, of Schuyler was fined $750 and assessed $50 costs for obstructing government operations, a Class1 misdemeanor committed Jan. 8 at the Antelope County Law Enforcement Center in Neligh. She appeared for pretrial hearing, withdrew her previous not guilty plea and entered a no contest plea, pursuant to an agreement with Abler. In return Abler recommended a fine only. Llanos was represented by Figueroa.

A 14-year-old Elgin youth pleaded guilty, by waiver, to a Class 3 misdemeanor, driving without a license, in Elgin on Feb. 2. The youth was fined $75 and $49 costs.
