Day one of the 2022 Nebraska School Activities Association Class D Individual State Wrestling Tournament is in the books and one Summerland wrestler will advance to the semifinal.

Colton Thiele, who enterered the meet with a 28-6 record at 195, opened with a 9-4 win over Morrill's Michael Morgan. In the quarterfinal, Thiele earned a hard-fought win, by fall, over Ashton Hawkins, of Axtell. The win came with 43 seconds remaining in the third period.

Thiele will face Sid Miller, of Anselmo-Merna, in Friday's semifinal. Miller holds a 34-7 season record.

Thiele's brother, Keaton, faced Mason Noel of Southern Valley, Thursday. Noel pinned the Bobcat freshman in 2:51.

On Friday, Thiele will wrestler Benjamin Klemesrud, of North Central in the first consolation round.

In the 160 class, Alex Arroyo split matches, Thursday. He defeated Hunter Douglas, Ravenna, in 4:22 in the opening round and lost to Steven Menke, of Bridgeport in the quarterfinal.

Arroyo will face the winner of a match between Jacob Hegemann, Howells-Dodge, and Garrett Schneider, Twin Loup, in Friday's second-round consolation match.

Wyatt Chipps lost a first-round match in the 220 class to Austin Meyer, of Perkins County. Meyer recorded a 10-2 victory. The loss places Chipps in a match against Brady's Cameron Carr. They will wrestle Friday afternoon.

Logan Mueller finished 1-1, Thursday. In the first round, he claimed an 8-1 decision over Andrew Koehlmoos, of St. Mary's. In the quarterfinal, Jordy Baland, of Doniphan-Trumbull, pushed Muller three periods and won a 4-2 decision.

The loss sets up a Friday consolation match against either Xander Albin, of Plainview, or Taylor Hubl, of Hitchcock County.

At 12:30 p.m., on Friday, first-round consolation matches, in the boys' division will begin, with second-round consolation matches to follow.

Summerland's Lenora Kester will take the mat Friday afternoon also, as first round and quarterfinal matches begin at 12:30 p.m.

Saturday will offer a full day of matches, beginning at 8:30 a.m., with boys' consolation semifinals and girls' second-round consolation matches.

Medal rounds in both divisions, beginning with third- and fifth-place matches will follow the 8:30 a.m. competition.

At 3 p.m., boys' and girls' championship finals are slated to begin.
