Man accused of assualting county worker takes plea deal

Haiden M. Sleister, 18, of Norfolk appeared in front of the Honorable Donna Taylor in the Antelope County courtroom in Neligh on Jan. 5, for pretrial hearing, alongside his court-appointed attorney, Antelope County public defender Melissa Figueroa. He is charged with third-degree assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor, and willful reckless driving, a Class 3 misdemeanor. Sleister changed his pleas, pursuant to a plea deal with Antelope County prosecutor Joe Abler. In return for Sleister’s guilty or no contest pleas to the two counts, Abler agreed to file no additional charges in the case. Sleister withdrew his not guilty pleas and pleaded no contest to both counts. Taylor ordered a presentence investigative report and set sentencing for Feb. 16. Bond, in the amount of $5,000, 10% cash, is continued.

The case involves the assault of an Antelope County road worker Sept. 23, 2021, near the Oakdale lagoon, after the worker witnessed and intervened in an incident of reckless driving by the defendant.

Anthony Williams, 30, of Wayne faced Taylor for pretrial hearing four counts, alleged June 27 at a Clearwater concert, counts I and II, third-degree assault, Class 1 misdemeanors; Count III, obstruct government operations, also a Class 1 misdemeanor; and Count IV, disturbing the peace, a Class 3 misdemeanor. A plea deal was announced. In return for Williams’ no contest pleas to counts I and IV, Abler dismissed counts II and III and agreed to recommend a probation sentence. Taylor judged him guilty of counts I and IV and set sentencing Feb. 2. Bond posted June 30, in the amount of $4,000, 10%, is continued. Williams is represented by Figueroa.

Several pretrial hearings were continued to Feb. 2:

• Dustin W. Rosberg, 33, Petersburg, on Count I, DUI, first offense, a Class W misdemeanor, and Count II, possession of an open alcohol container, an infraction, both alleged July 25; $1,500, 10%, bond is continued; represented by Ron Temple of Norfolk.

• Roger R. Hauf, 19, O’Neill, DUI, second offense, a Class 1 misdemeanor alleged Sept 12, to Feb. 2; $3,000, 10%, bond is continued; represented by Figueroa.

• Lisa M. Dugal, 56, Neligh, on a Class 1 misdemeanor, false reporting, alleged July 15; represented by court-appointed attorney Kyle Petersen of Tilden.

• Andrew J. Clifton, 43, Orchard, on three counts alleged June 22, Count I, leave scene of property-damage accident, and counts II and III, willful reckless driving; represented by court-appointed counsel, Martin Klein of Neligh.
