Bobcats give solid performances at Wolfpack Invite

Summerland boys' wrestling team brought home the runner-up trophy from Saturday's EPPJ Invite.

The Bobcats scored 130.5 points in the 13-team field. Plainview scored 144.5 points to win the meet.

Seniors Colton Thiele and Logan Mueller earned gold medals in their respective divisions.

Wrestling at 195, Thiele went 3-0, pinning Cohen Muncie of Pender and Cayden Burns, Central Valley.

In the match for first, Thiele earned a 9-4 decision over Stone Swantek, Nebraska Christian.

Mueller cruised through the 285-pound division, pinning all opponents. Along the route to the championship match, Mueller pinned Eric Wu, Nebraska Christian; Deyton Kramer, Pender and Jacob Stromberg, Palmer.


He pinned Gunner Fink, Twin River, in :24 in the finals.

Wyatt Chipps brought home bronze, finishing 4-1.

After a bye in the 220-class, Chipps pinned Grayson Petersen, of Plainvieew, before falling to Gunner Reimers, of Palmer.

In the consolation bracket, Chipps pinned Jerrod Land, of Fullerton and in a rematch with Petersen, pinned him, in 1:43, to earn the third-place medal.

In the 170-pound division, Kendrick Schroeder finished 3-1. He earned a win over Luke Hagedorn, Guardian Angels Central Catholic and dropped the semifinal, by fall, in 2:34, to Chase Stieb, of Arcadia/Loup City.

Schroeder defeated teammate AJ Hobbs in the consolation semifinal. Hobbs suffered a first-round loss to Beau Zoucha, Twin River.

Schroeder met Hagedorn for a second time and won, by fall, in :48, in the third-place match.

Alex Thiele finished third in the 126-pound class, finishing 3-1. After a win over Ty Greenland, ALC, followed by a loss to Jordan Mosel, Plainview, Thiele faced Trey Johnson of Pender for the third-place title. Thiele won, by fall, in 2:42.

Jesse Thiele finished fourth in the 132-pound class. He finished 2-2, with wins over Emmerson Earl, Palmer and Dylan Shinstock, GACC.

In the 152-pound class, Matt Umphress finished fifth, with a 0-5 record.

Other Bobcats competing included:

Connor Thomson, 120, 1-2;

Logan Kester, 138, 2-2;

Keaton Thiele, 125, 3-2; and

Willis Mast, 126, 0-2.

The Bobcats junior varsity team will be back in action, Jan. 3, at Wisner-Pilger.

Varsity wrestlers will compete at Elkhorn Valley, Jan. 6. Competition will begin at 6 p.m.
