Commissioners approve redistricting map

Final map to be delivered by December 17

Antelope County Commissioners approved redistricting plans, Tuesday, although a final map, with township boundaries and village overlays will not be available until Dec. 17.

Commissioners listened to Josie Schafer, from the University of Nebraska-Omaha Center for Public Affairs Research, discuss how districts were proposed, based on compactness and equalized population.

Two changes from previous district lines include Neligh, which will use Highway 275 as a dividing line, and Orchard, which will be split along Highway 20.

A complete story on the new commissioner districts will be available in next week’s edition of the Advocate-Messenger.

In other business, commissioners:

• heard a presentation from Dayton Murty, for Summit Carbon Solutions. The company proposes to construct a pipeline which will capture carbon dioxide from ethanol plants, convert it to liquid and pipe it to North Dakota;

• approved 65 bridge inspections to be completed in December and January. Total cost will run $13,000; and

• approved SAM, The Elgin Review and Antelope County News to serve as legal newspapers for the county in 2022.
