Bearinger recognized as top actres

Best actress • Cassidy Bearinger receives a medal for outstanding performance by an actress at the Niobrara Valley Conference East Division One-Act Contest, Nov. 16, in Elgin. Eight other Bobcat actors received recognition.

Summerland play production team's production of Zink: The Myth, The Legend, The Zebra finished third at the Niobrara Valley Conference East Divison One-Act Contest, Nov. 16, at Elgin Pope John.

The Bobcat's play received ranks of first, third and third and tallied 169 rating points.

Neligh-Oakdale's presentation of Puberty: The Game Show earned ranks of one, two and five and received 170 rating points to take home the conference championship.

Pope John kept the runner-up trophy, edging out out Summerland by one rank point. EPJ finished with ranks of one, two and three and received 169 rating points.

Senior Cassidy Bearinger earned the outstanding performance award for an actress for her portrayal of Becky, a young girl diagnosed with leukemia.


Other Summerland performers receiving acting recognition included Matt Umphress, Bryna Umphress, Faith King, Adrienne Parker, Emma Kerkman, Madison Melcher, Ashley Melcher and Calissa Kester.

Director Julie Harley said the team received comments and ideas for improvement from the three-judge panel. Between now and Dec. 1, actors will implement those suggestions in time for district competition, scheduled for 9 a.m., in Creighton.

Cast and crew have been preparing for competition on the auxiliary gym floor since the stage has not available.

That scenario was rewritten Tuesday.

After returning from Elgin, Harley and company received news that the stage area had been approved for use.

"We put up the set Tuesday evening when we returned home," Harley said.

A public performance was scheduled for Tuesday evening in the new facility.

The Bobcats compete in districts, Dec. 1, in Creighton at 9 a.m.
