Tough defense, fake punt lead Bobcats to victory

For the Summerland Bobcats, a solid defensive showing limited the visiting CWC offense to 213 total yards, giving the Bobcats a 29-26 win, Sept. 10, in Orchard.

A little razzle dazzle from the Bobcats helped seal the deal.

In the final quarter, on fourth and 14, Gaby Gamez got the first down and more to set up final scoring opportunity for Summerland.

The Bobcats trailed 12-7 after the first quarter, but clawed back to take a 13-12 lead to the locker room.

Both teams scored a touchdown and completed the two point attempt in the third quarter.

CWC missed a PAT conversion in the final quarter but Summerland responded with a an endzone pop, plus two. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Bobcats took a knee to advance to 2-1 on the season.

Junior running back Trevor Thomson carried the ball 36 times, racking up 307 yards, including a 65-yard sprint.

Thomson scored three of the Bobcat touchdowns, with senior quarterback Mason Hoke punching it in for a fourth score.

Hoke finished the contest with a 57.1% completion rate, hitting four of seven passes.

Kendrick Schroeder led the receiving corps, catching two for 25 yards.

Hoke led the defensive squad with nine tackles, while Alec Schindler and Logan Mueller contributed eight tackles apiece. Mueller was also credited with one sack for a six-yard loss.

Cole Duba finished with 202 total yards for the Renegades.

Hunter Hoerle led CWC's defensive effort with 12 tackles, including eight solo takedowns.
