Beef symposium planned in Albion

Local cattle producers are invited to attend the Nebraska Cow Symposium, Aug. 24, at the Boone County Fairgrounds, 11th and West Fairview streets, in Albion.

The event, sponsored by Nebraska Extension and Elanco, will include industry and university represntatives, in addition to live cattle demonstrations in the Niewohner Arena.

Leah Beyer, of Elanco, will present information in sustainability and media influence, followed by discussion led by Elanco’s Frank White about the benefits of rumensin for cattle.

Dr. Brian Vander Ley from Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center and Dr. Brett Terhaar with Elanco will examine vaccination strategies and calf immunity. Attendees will also hear about the latest products and research for fly and lice control from Dave Boxler, UNL livestock entomologist.

Following lunch, Dr. Elliot Dennis and Dr. Jay Parsons, from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will present the latest cattle market and livestock risk protection forecasts and updates.

A panel discussion will accompany all sessions.

A live cattle demonstration will conclude the day-long event, including cow condition scoring, proper insective application and implanting steps.
