All eyes on Elgin July 3

Blast from the past: Caroll's cafe, in Elgin, circa 1941. Elgin memorabilia will be on display at the Antelope County Night at the Museum, July 3rd.

Elgin is the 2021 featured town for the Antelope County Museum Evening at the Museum, 410 L Street, Neligh. Take advantage of free museum admission, 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, July 3, for this event which promises to bring Elgin history to life.

See a display of prized Elgin memorabilia, including a farmer's daily journal dating from the late 1800s, pill-making paraphernalia from the pioneer Elgin drug store, keepsakes from Elgin businesses back in the day, and more. A video highlighting Elgin past and present will be featured.

Also included is a 43-stop self-guided tour of Elgin sites, tracking the town's development since its beginnings in 1889. Elgin's Hotel Logan and the Koinzan hangar, featuring vintage aircraft, will be open 2:30-4:30 p.m., Saturday, July 3.

Get the tour guide at the museum, The Elgin Review office or on the web at http://www.antelopecountymuseum.org. Answer five easy questions and earn an Elgin Buck, redeemable at any Elgin business. Turn in your answers at the museum a week prior to July 3 and anytime during the summer.

The museum complex, managed by the Antelope County Historical Society, collects and preserves the county's history. Included is a 7,480 square-foot main building, a newly renovated one-room schoolhouse, historic church and log cabin. Except for Elgin Evening at the museum, admission is $5 and free if under 18.

The historical society maintains an extensive document and photographic collection, including genealogical records, historic newspapers, maps, court records and high school yearbooks.
