Procurring alcohol cost is $500, jail time

Jared S. Steadman, 27, of Norfolk appeared before the Honorable Kale Burdick in the Holt County courtroom in O’Neill on Tuesday, March 2, for sentencing on two Class 3 misdemeanor counts, Count I, reckless driving, and Count II, littering, first offense.

Burdick fined Steadman $500 and $50, respectively, and charged him $50 costs of prosecution.

Steadman was convicted Feb. 16, after pleading no contest to both counts. Count I was reduced from a Class W misdemeanor, driving under the influence, pursuant to a plea agreement.

Steadman was represented by Holt County public defender Rod Smith of O’Neill.

Jacob L. Tasler, 24, of Atkinson faced Burdick on a charge of procuring alcohol to a minor, a Class 1 misdemeanor committed Jan. 2.

Tasler pleaded no contest, pursuant to a plea deal. There was a joint recommendation for a $500 fine and three days jail, with the defendant requesting jail time to commence March 8. Burdick so ordered, along with taxing Tasler $50 costs. He was represented by Smith.

Kyle D. Boettcher, 32, of Stuart appeared for arraignment on three counts committed Jan. 28.

He waived his right to counsel and pleaded guilty to Count I, no proof of financial responsibility, a Class 2 misdemeanor; Count II, no operator’s license, a Class 3 misdemeanor; and Count III, possession of drug paraphernalia, an infraction.

Burdick fined Boettcher $225, $75 and $100, respectively, and taxed him $50 costs.

Austin R. Hiatt, 29, of Fairfax, South Dakota, appeared for arraignment on a Class 3 misdemeanor, criminal mischief, 0 to $500, committed Jan 6. He waived his right to counsel and pleaded guilty. Burdick fined him $200 and assessed $50 costs.

Heather N. Ollendick, 36, of O’Neill faced Burdick for arraignment on two counts committed Jan. 16, Count I, possession open alcohol container, and Count II, possession of marijuana, one ounce or less, first offense. She waived her right to counsel and pleaded guilty to both counts. She was fined $50 and $300, respectively, and assessed $49 costs.

Joseph J. Ford, 30, of Cody pleaded guilty, by waiver, to a Class 4 misdemeanor, fail to carry fuel permit. He was fined $100 and $49 costs. Ford was cited by a Nebraska State Patrol carrier enforcement officer near the Inman scale, Jan. 21.

Matthew W. Kelly, 25, of O’Neill pleaded guilty, by waiver, to a Class 3 misdemeanor, driving a commercial motor vehicle without obtaining a CDL. He was fined $100 and $49 costs. Kelly was cited Feb. 2, west of O’Neill by an NSP carrier enforcement officer.
